This is the joke I share with the director of Minerva, the creative advertising portfolio program I started at the University of Alabama in Fall 2023. What became a joke was not one in its not-so humble beginnings. I was dead serious. When a high-level ad executive came into our classroom critique and asked me if I was an art director or copywriter, I said I was a unicorn. Was I wrong? Probably, most likely, and all of the above. Was I lying? No.

I’M A UNICORN… SO IT GOES.

I’M MORE OF A DONKEY IN A BIRTHDAY CONE HAT.

I may never be a unicorn, but I will never stop trying to be. This is my identity. This is what I chase. I never have nor will ever want to be tied to one thing. If I were a donkey, I would be the coolest donkey—the only donkey that taught itself to surf because no other donkey did it.
